We have a lot of buyers from European countries and since they are selling digital goods they need VAT support on WP Ultimo. I’m putting taxes support into our todo list soon and I would like to hear if any of you have any inputs on this.
We’re planning on modeling our implementation based on WooCommerce’s approach, so if any of you have experience setting up VAT or any equivalent tax configs on a store we would love to hear your experience and the major pain points of the whole process.

Thanks for this topic!
For the EU, the VAT percentages don’t change so it would be ideal to prefill these values when the wp ultimo user enables this feature.
Additionally as you said it could be great to add taxes manually.
I have a list of these values ready to go, let me know if you want them via e-mail 😉

Hey everyone: do you now if Stripe have a build in Vat feature ?(it’s should be an easy solution if they have implement it?)2 years ago goldenticketParticipant
Yes and no.
Yes as in: Stripe Subscriptions and the Stripe Orders API will automatically calculate everything, but only if the platform (WP Ultimo in this case) sends the appropriate information (tax_percent).
No as in: You cannot setup the tax percentage on your Stripe Dashboard, and Stripe will handle everything on the back-end. If that makes sense?
More details here: https://support.stripe.com/questions/should-i-charge-sales-tax-or-vat
You can also integrate tax calculation platforms (Avalara, TaxJar, and Taxamo) pretty easily. More info here: https://stripe.com/docs/orders/tax-integration
Thankfully, I live somewhere that has no sales tax and don’t have to deal with this. I can only imagine how much of a headache it is elsewhere.2 years ago nicodParticipant

Any news about European tax support?1 year, 10 months ago Arindo DuqueKeymaster
Hi there, @nicod. I’m about to take WP Ultimo full-time and I will revisit this issue. My plan is to include it as soon as possible, but I would not be able to give you an ETA on it yet.
As I said before, I’m not in the EU, so my knowledge about VAT specifics is very limited. I’m leaning towards a more abstract approach to taxes (maybe modeling after the tax settings of WooCommerce) and offer VAT as some sort of importable pre-configured tax settings (which I believe is what WooCommerce and other plugins do as well). I’ll keep this post updated as we move in that direction.

Good news Arindo: thanks for info.

@rbcreations: i’m ok with you !1 year, 9 months ago tacolocoParticipant
I know here in New Zealand & Australia we have to include tax, same as Europe. We call it GST. It is a fixed % (15%).
I’d prefer this was baked into Ultimo -> stripe subscriptions, rather than being forced to use Woo Subscriptions, or equivalent, although that is a good extended option.
That’s the only thing which is stopping me jumping all in on Ultimo right now, unless people have a work around for this?
It really works well the taxes with Woocommerce. The customer does not notice woocommerce at al and you have al tons of options and extensions of Woo. My Woocommerce addon had a bug though wich Arindo is fixing asap. So my advise is jump into WP Ultimo with Woo!1 year, 9 months ago tacolocoParticipant
Thanks for the feedback, ok, I will.
The Blog post about the woocommerce integration mentions that “The downside is that every payment must be paid manually at the end of the billing period.”
Does this mean the customers are getting sent email to manually authorize each month or billing period, rather than a, set and forget type subscription, or am I miss reading that.1 year, 9 months ago nicodParticipant
I can’tt cait for a tax support (with woocommerce or not..).For me it’s the big drawback of wpultimo..
Tax is possible with WooCommerce. Tax is working great! Only we have to wait for Woocommerce subscriptions so no manual payments is needed anymore.1 year, 8 months ago PG91Participant
For european people this is exactly the number UNO must have. Will keep an eye on WP Ultimo!1 year, 8 months ago mattParticipant
As a reference below is two excellent plugins when it comes to manage taxes, including EU VAT & MOSS.
Also, subscriptions for WooCommerce is easily handled by this plugin:
In my opinion a WooCommerce integration that handles billing for WP Ultimo would be the easiest way to solve this.
